Cheap and Clever Sumo Wrestling

So, I know you can buy/rent sumo wrestling suits, but I don't know where you could find one. I also dread the idea of cleaning those things after people are done using them. So, here are some clever ways to do some sumo wrestling...

  • Buy a ton of bubble wrap and make a suit out of that. It does not need to be a full-body thing; you can just use the bubble wrap to protect the more vulnerable parts of your body. The sound the bubble wrap will make will be awesome, and everyone will look ridiculous.
  • If you have a large group, give them some random supplies (blankets, jump rope, pillows, stuffed animals) and have them create their own sumo wrestling suits and then do battle.
  • If you have a bigger crowd, have supplies ready for them to make their own signs while the wrestling is going on. People can be super creative when they're having fun, especially if they've already wrestled and have a slight concussion (though medical attention should probably be provided at that point).
  • You can have judges for the wrestling matches, if you want. They can analyze the match and judge the wrestlers like judges do on reality TV these days.
  • If you know someone who is really funny, have them be an announcer for the sumo matches. If they really are funny people, their commentary will be a great touch to this already silly-looking event.
